About HomeBuild Atlas
HomeBuild Atlas exists to answer one question well: what will this project actually take? We build free calculators and write standards-based guides that help homeowners, DIYers, and contractors estimate materials, understand costs, and recognize when a job needs a licensed professional - before money is spent and ground is broken.
Who's behind the site
Our editorial standards
Every formula is shown. Nothing on this site is a black box. Calculators document their math, and each guide includes a worked example so you can verify results by hand.
Every page has a named author and review date. Articles carry a byline, a technical reviewer, a published date, and a last-reviewed date. When standards or prices shift, we update the page and the date.
We say when to stop DIYing. Every guide includes a "when to call a professional" section. Structural work, deep excavation, retaining walls, and chronic water problems belong with licensed pros, and we say so plainly.
Estimates, not engineering. Our tools produce planning estimates. They do not replace site-specific design by a licensed engineer, and each page carries that limitation. See the full safety disclaimer and methodology.
